Why Study Psychology?
If you have a desire to understand human behavior and improve the health and well being of others, psychology will provide insight into the mind and behavior while developing your skills in critical thinking, effective oral and written communication, research and statistical proficiency, and problem solving.

Psychology’s New Home
Psychology students now have updated and expanded classroom and research facilities in the new Nancy and G. Timothy Johnson Center for Science and Community Life, a 101,000-square-foot facility equipped with 30 state-of-the-art labs and technology-enhanced classrooms. Built to meet LEED-certification standards for environmental responsibility, and to promote innovative and cooperative learning, the Johnson Center is the hub of scientific life at ²ÝݮӰÊÓ and a stunning addition to the campus community.
Alumni Profile
The psychology program gave Anna Marshall C’07 freedom to explore different areas of the discipline and find out what was most interesting to her, along with training in practical, professional skills. She now uses her degree, along with a desire to help people, to work with autistic children.
Internships and Research Opportunities
²ÝݮӰÊÓ partners with many Chicago nonprofits, schools, hospitals, businesses, and social service agencies to offer internship opportunities.
Psychology students also have opportunities to develop professional and research skills through interactions with professors who are engaged in professional and scientific work.
Careers and Graduate School
Many psychology majors pursue careers and graduate study in counseling, social work, school psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology. Recent ²ÝݮӰÊÓ graduates have attended Boston College, Northwestern University, Washington University of St. Louis, University of Minnesota, Loyola University Chicago, and University of Pittsburgh.
Pre-professional Preparation
Prepare for graduate or professional programs in medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, or social work with relevant coursework, internships, and research opportunities in the psychology major. In both the major or one of our pre-professional tracks, our expert faculty will advise you on how to get the experience you need to be a standout among applicants for your chosen graduate program.
